Today's run was fly by the seat of your pants day... I ran this morning purely by acciedent [I had planned to run this evening] But a new client wanted to meet today in the evening! I was lucky enough to have my mom and dad home to watch Xander while I went for a run. That was nice. I was able to find some old trails that I used to run on years ago. Mostly flat with small rolling hills.

Tuesday: 45e
I ran with Xander today. LOVE IT! It was hot but needed to run before I had my appointments for the night. I ran to Yellow Bird Scrapbook to pick up my Design Team assignment and ran back. While I was there, I got a new Mary Kay customer! It was a good day.


Wednesday: 45e
Xander slept while I ran today. I really shouldn't have run at 10:30a it was already over 90 degrees! but I had water with me and did what I could. Weighed myself today. mmmff not where I thought I'd be, oh well. I'll be measuring myself in a second here and we'll see how that is shaping up. I haven't lost much weight, but I have lost inches! So there's always a bright side.

First 5K In a Loooong Time.......

This was the first 5K in a long time for me. It was nice to get out and do it. I have been sick and dealing with migraines this week, but thought I'd run anyway because there were no refunds... Soooo off we went at 5am was wake up call.. the race started at 7:30am and I was finished within a half hour.

Girl Scout 5K! They gave us Thin Mints in our bag.. Ohhh yeah. but I really don't need the sweets. So into the freezer they go!

Deffinitly not my best time. ever. But after having a kid 6 months ago, being 22lbs over weight, sick all this week and my shoes being untied and coming off... I think over all it turned out just fine. I felt like a mess, and I think coach would have to agree if he had seen the race. I guess I spared myself some race comments and splits. :)

Speaking of splits, they didn't have the mile OR 2 mile marked! What kind of race was that? Any how here is how I fared:

6th in my age group with a time of 28:48.2 / 9:07 pace
Winner of the race- 33 year old with 18:51.1 /5:58 pace

Week 5 Phase 1

Monday: 45e / no run
Sick. Not feeling well, which sucks and puts me back a little. Its not bad, just a bit under the weather.

Tuesday: 45e / no run
Sick. lame. oh well, this comes and goes throughout our lives. so hope to be doing better later this week. So much going on, I really don't have time to be sick... but if I don't take the time to recoup then I'll pay for it later. soooooooo .....

Wednesday: sundown. San Diego 45e
Ran today. YEAH! Feeling better. I did the grandma shuffle today, I think 12 minute miles? lame. but at least I got out and moved my body. Weighed myself yesterday but stupidly did it after lunch and after I drank a lot.. so I doubt it was accurate. It said that I was 140lbs. okay now that's just annoying. so I'm weighing myself tomorrow or Friday and measuring then too.
So as of now, I gained back almost all the weight I have previously lost. Might have to lay off the ho-hos. hahahhaha :]

Thursday: 45e/ no run
Weighed myself today.. okay so I'm not 140lbs..thank goodness! I am at 137.5lbs. Not ideal but making small progress. Being sick didn't help any. bummer. We'll see how this weekend goes.
So I felt fine until about 2p and I was scheduled to run at 5p. I had a slight headache, well- the beginnings of a migraine.. and I thought that going to the Chiropractor would help out, which it did. It didn't get into a full-blown migraine, but I am still dealing with some of the rest of the symptoms of a migraine. boo on today. I was super stoked to run, had a great place and everything. Too bad I'm hiding from light in the bedroom hoping to be able to see clearly again and have my head stop pounding! aagggrrr. Its been awhile since my last migraine, so can't complain. And getting adjusted did help a lot. So instead of being in major pain for 24-30hours, I instead get a much shorter sentence but still have the nausea, blurred vision and head ache [and a temp]. It should be gone by morning. thank goodness. So tomorrow's run should be good :)

Week 4 Phase 1

Monday: 5a el cajon 40e
Early early! El cajon provides many many places to run. Still working on the trails, I can see them, I just haven't been able to find a legal way to get to them. It seems like I can only jump over some one's fence to get to them, and I'm not going to be doing that.. sooo have to find a way around or through...... I feel good. better as each day progresses. I am taking one day at a time and enjoying it, not looking too ahead because today is what really matters. It keeps me happy and making progress. Consistancy in running daily and in maintaing the speed [even if it is slow] is how progress is made. I have nothing to prove. I am consistant.

Tuesday: 5a el cajon 40e
Another good day. Not much to say today except it was good. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Wednesday: gym day 40e
[disclaimer.. It's now monday the 22 September....forgot to write on each day this week and for the life of me can't really remember everything..] Anyhow... run was good. I don't remember anything else besides I ran instead of going to the gym. It was a run that I was able to find another new strett... hillside pathways..where art thou?! Me thinkith I'd love a meander on thy pathways...

got in the run before company came over..whew'!! almost didn't make it! Still bewildered to where I can get on that hillside path!!! Its driving me NUTS!!!! Haha..I'm going crazy don't ya wanna come anlong I'm goin' crazy, just singin' this song!?!

Cameron went camping. i have no sitter. can't run :(

Week 3 Phase 1

I LOVE MONDAYS!! There is just something about Mondays that I can't get enough of! Starting the day off with a run is my favorite. I do not get a chance to do it very often because I am soo tired all of the time. Its hard to have a baby AND get up at 5a every morning to workout. Anyhow. I'm starting to feel better. I know my body will hurt for a while longer, but I'm getting into shape and loving it!! I LOST and INCH on my waist!!! excited. even though my weight didn't go down.. at least it didn't increase! Yea for me!

Tuesday: 4:30 gym 35e
Walked 2.3 miles. I didn't plan to do this walk today. I had to go pick up the truck from the meeting place. Fast pace, good walk. I went to the gym today in lew of a run (it was too late to run by myself when all was said and done for the day). I think it is important that I go to the gym and use the elliptical machine as a cross trainer, especially since I'm still a little heavier than I was when I was running in college.. my joints need a little bit of a rest but I still need to workout. It was nice. I did 35e with 5 min cool down. I listened to my affirmation and inspirational track on my ipod while I worked out. Loved it! Peaceful, relaxing, and sweaty. 2mil-24.36 end mil-3.34 spm-160 cal 344.4 ahr-142

Wednesday: 5p santee 35e
So ummm.. Santee... Had (I think it was) 5 fires today, right where I planned my run today. Go figure. So into Rancho I go.... Ran the hills around Cuyamaca and down onto the track. Ahh I miss that track. I can't help but have flash backs of races and training on that track and on the trails through Rancho. Mande... remember that time with that BIG rock...and the soccer team?! ahahhahaa anyhow.. it was a great run. I felt really really good, like things in my body are clicking again! It was a little faster easy run, but still falls under the category of "easy". I've been doing the grandma shuffle for the past few weeks and my body has been responding nicely to moving more.. now to go a little faster.

Thursday: 9a Spring Valley 35e
Today's run was soooo much fun! I almost forgot what fun it was to "blaze" new trails (well more like discover new trails) and find new surprises as i crested the hill or turned the bend!! I love days like this, where I am free to roam all over the hills going this way and that- never really knowing where I'll end up. Then trying to make it back to my starting point by the time my clock runs out. Just put on the ipod and go. I need to remember where some of the trails lead to and what some of the runs we used to go on in HS are. Things have changed so much in that area that I'm not sure if all of those runs are even there. sad. but so many other trails to explore, always more for tomorrow.

Friday: 5p santee 31e
Ran part of mission trails. I love the part that goes under the bridge on the 52. The only problem with that today was part of the problem I had earlier this week. Fires. Yup, the fires went through that part and so it was kinda burnt. Normally that would not be a problem but since it was recently burnt the air was still ashy. I have asthma [but haven't had an asthma attack for yyyeeeaaarrrsss] and I thought I'd be okay. The pace was good and I felt great at first.. then my throat started to constrict. We had to turn around a few minutes early. It ended up getting worse as the run progressed sooo the run was cut short by a few minutes. I'll feel better today or tomorrow. I'll have to take it easy tomorrow. Other than the breathing, I felt GREAT! Note to self: avoid recently burnt areas.

Saturday: 9a-ish santee or maybe el cajon 45e
Ahhhhh! long runs! I'm feeling better than yesterday's asthma icky. Took it easy (as usual) and it felt great! Another week down, which feels GREAT and I continue to feel better and better each week. I like this feeling. I'm looking forward to the rest of today's activities: a Mary Kay sexy legs spa class that I'm teaching, and spending time with my hubby! Tonight's date night!

Better than last week. Taking it easy. Making sure my body and legs feel good before stepping things up too much. I take each day as it comes. I cannot expect immediate or amazing results in the first weeks of training. I am in it for the long haul. I am [however] looking forward to "racing" against girl scouts on the 27th of this month :) They better have cookies at the end of this race.. mmm thin mints! {just what coach ordered after a race.. eh coach?!?!}

Week 2 Phase 1

Monday: 30e
Labor day! A day to labor... or just kick back with family! Love it! Since we were hanging out with my family I didn't run until 8:02p. I normally don't run this late because it is my son's bedtime, but it needed to be done. I want to stay consistent so I can drop the weight I want and begin to seriously race again. Last night I was scrapbooking and ran (haha very punny) across pictures from College and also my training schedules and race strategies!! I was so stoked! Of course I had to read through everything and get sidetracked for hours..... it was so nice to reminisce and it gave me motivation to keep with what I'm doing.
I found a quote that inspired me: "The mark of a great player is in his ability to come back. The great champions have all come back from defeat." -Sam Snead. Now I haven't been defeated in the sense that I've lost in a race...my attitude and lack of planning all these years had defeated me in a way. I was always too busy with this or doing that. I don't think I really focused on my goal and did the things to make it a reality. In the past few months I have reflected back on what I have accomplished and I know I've only scratched the surface! I have so much more potential that I haven't tapped into yet..... that's why I took it up again. My dream, ever since I was an elementary school kid, was to compete in the Olympics. Now, I'm back. :)
Tonight's run was a 5K that I had previously mapped out, just to use as a course to practice on. Since I am still not at my goal weight, it is not wise to push myself at the level that I was at when I was in college (even though my delusional mind thinks I can). Up Mollison, past pepper and back, right on sandalwood stop at alley. ( I think the stopping point is there or at the stop sign before the parking lot...anyhow) An easy run. Decent pace. Body hurt. But pushed through it. It is little "triumphs" like these that keep me positive. Coach always told us to get a good base and you can do anything you want from there. My goal is to stay healthy, get fit. I lost 2lbs last week... progress... little triumph for me! I've never weighed this much before and I find that it is a bit discouraging at times. I'm not going to let that hinder my work to achieve my dreams and goals. Soon I'll be back down to the weight I want and be able to continue to tone up. THAT is motivation. THAT is incentive. To look how I did when I was in peak running shape in college. And not to mention fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans again!

WOW! Today was FILLED with cleaning and arranging things in the apartment. I hosted our first scrapbooking club today! So..... since my son was a little spirited today I couldn't do very much for very long. Gym work out: 30mins. My body likes this! Can't wait to loose more weight! I'll be posting updates on that every Monday :)

Wednesday: 30e
Felt good. Feeling a little better.. body wise. Ran Rancho loop. Boy has it been hot! Ahhh.. just like the good 'ol days!

Thursday: 30e
Since the heat was triple digits today..and I had my Mary Kay meeting tonight...there was no time to make dinner, feed the kid AND get ready.... The choice to run at night, after the meeting seemed to be the only logical one. (or so I thought) so here I am, all sweaty and salty and hot. ick! but I figured I'd write what I did tonight because I really don't want to remember to do it later. (oh, btw its 10:15p) We ran the 5k that I mapped out by my house. It's fairly level with a gradual hill from about mile 1.3-2.3 then you turn around at the top of the hill and run back home. The temp is still in the 80's .. We started the run at 9 ish ! My neighborhood isn't the best, but isn't the worst either.. just in case I carry my mace, or is it pepper spray?.....anyhow I have that, my cell phone and my handy climbing knife. you know, be prepared. I've never had to use any of those in this neighborhood, and most of the bad stuff happens later in the night.... but I am prepared. I'm crazy, I know! I can't miss a day of base training.. before you know it one day is missed then a whole week! I can't do that again! My body is starting to feel better and I do not labour as much to breathe. yup. things are looking up. I can already tell that my tummy is shrinking too :) love it!! time to get some well deserved sleep.. wake up call is 6a, every morning! I rise with the sun....

Friday: 30e
We intended to run on the Granite Hills field.. too bad there was a football game going. This was a good run. Love being consistent! It was hotter than all get up today, so an evening run was in order. Good thing because it was still in the 80's when it was 9p! Whew! Looking forward to tomorrow's long run.

Saturday: 40e
Again, soooooo blasted hot! I have to remind myself that September and October are the hottest months of the year in San Diego. We ran again at night. 8ish. Went to do laps on Granite's new football field.. fake grass!!! Looks real and feels AMAZING!!!! Oh my! It was pretty dark so I was a little leery, but really wanted to check out the new surface they have... as we were running around and around I got a really bad feeling... we had to get out of there. I had seen someone on the other side of the track shed and thought that they were on the street and not in the gate where we were.. but I didn't see them pass on the other side of the shed. I saw more movement and got the prompting to leave now. So we left in a hurry. I like to know why, but really did not want to sit around and wait for this why. I still felt a little on edge as we raced down the street so I suggested that we pause to pray for protection. Afterwards we both felt better and continued our slower pace. This just reminds me that when prompted.. heed it and don't stick around to find out why. I've had many faith-building experiences while running and I'm glad that I can come closer to my Father in Heaven on my runs as well as other times in my life. I am truly blessed.
